Frequently Asked Questions
Do you take insurance? Currently, I do not accept insurance and I am an “out-of-network provider.” I try and make it as streamlined and easy as possible for my patients to get reimbursed by their insurance companies for my services. I generate a monthly Superbill for my services that you can submit to your insurance carrier.
What if I have a therapist, can I still see you for prescribing and managing medications? Yes. I frequently collaborate closely with therapists, primary care providers and other folks on your care team so that we can best support you.
Do you see people face-to-face, virtually, by phone? All of the above. It’s always wonderful meeting face-to-face but if you prefer phone or virtual appointments (and it feels safe) then we can meet over Zoom. We can also mix it up and meet in person and virtually at different times.
Can I schedule a session with you in the evenings and on the weekends? Yes to both. In addition to offering sessions during normal business hours, I offer evening and Saturday morning sessions.
Where are you located if we meet in person? In the Mission Dolores neighborhood in San Francisco. The office address is 3646 24 Street (at Fair Oaks between Guerrero and Dolores).
Do you prescribe controlled substances? Yes, when indicated.
Do you prescribe medications after the first session? Sometimes, especially if your symptoms are relatively stable and/or transferring care. If you’re new to psychiatric treatment, it may take 1-3 sessions before I can recommend medications.
If I'm seeing you for medication management, how often do I need to see you? It depends. In the beginning of treatment, I see you more often - perhaps every three weeks or a month for an hour. After we get the medications dialed in including doses, I frequently space out the appointments and possibly shorten them to 25-minute check in sessions. After a couple sessions, usually we agree upon a meeting cadence together.
Are you easily accessible? Yes, all my patients can message me through their patient portal, directly through email and my cell. I prefer email communications over phone/texting and unless I tell you otherwise, I respond to all messages no later than two business days.
